Paper. Scissors. Rock. Local band's misguided enthusiasm results in scores of paper cuts
A video made of paper using scissors? These guys are bloody cracked.
AUCKLAND – 'Triumphant and full of themselves' is the only way to describe Svelte this afternoon. 'Bloody idiots' is another other way to describe the 3-peice band - they made a music video using paper and scissors. The band's guitarist, Ben Sciascia, enthusiastically recalls the moment the idea came into being."After the completion of our last band-bonding project, I noticed the paper and scissors lying on the table and leapt into the air. In my excitement I knocked over a bowl of nontoxic gold petal dust but it didn't matter, I had it! We're so damn good at these bonding projects, why don't we turn our first video into the ULTIMATE band bonding project?" Lead singer, Tim Stewart didn't quite share Ben's enthusiasm saying; "What a silly-billy, we all knew the ULTIMATE band-bonding project would be a 17 tier, Mad Hatter themed celebration cake. How could a video possibly replace this dream project?"
Despite the disturbing insight into the inner workings of Svelte, the video is a milestone in paper, scissors, rock video making. Rogan Josh of the International Egg Commission (and drummer for Auckland-based covers band Termicide) has been trying to persuade the egg industry to use similar techniques for an upcoming television commercial. But Svelte's drummer feels they'll be walking into a firestorm of paper cuts. "The amount of paper cuts we experienced should be a lesson to those bold enough to follow in our footsteps, besides, the International Egg Commission have The Omelette King don't they?...wish we had a king... all we have is a bloomin' paper video".
